February Meeting

Postby IslandGirlejfan's Miata » February 4th, 2010, 4:39 pm

Mark your calendars for Thursday 18 February as we will be meeting this month once again at the Greene Turtle. Meeting time is at 7 PM and as usual, loitering before and after the meeting is encouraged.=P Hopefully, some of this nasty snow will be behind us, but should it not, feel free to bring your OTM along to the meeting. If you've been contemplating coming out to meet us, come on out and ask for the Chesapeake Roadsters table. We would love to have you.

Just a side note, I am still trying to secure another place for us to meet at. I was hoping that our meeting would be at Looneys for this coming meeting, but after countless emails and a phone conversation, they really aren't interested in the club meeting revenue. In the next few weeks, I will probably be doing some face to face meet ups with some other establishments to get a feel for their ability to accommodate us, but for this month it's the Turtle.

They don't want to reserve the room for us without a huge deposit and it seems most of our meetings show up during one of their beer releases....they WON'T accommodate us then! If our numbers would have been better after I talked to the manager the last time we were there, we might have been a little more convincing, but they have turned us down twice now.

I really can't understand it myself....I was listening to 100.1 The Bay yesterday and they were announcing restaurant and bar closures....DuClaw in Fells Point was among those on the closure list and it comes as no surprise because for all the traffic in Arundel Mills, the DuClaw at that location never seems real busy. With the economy the way it is, you would think that bar and grill owners would be salivating for additional business and exposure and it's just not the case. I guess 25 to 30 people on a Thursday night that isn't necessarily busy and isn't enough business because the message I am getting from the managers is we don't want to be bothered by your group.

Ayep. Amy and I went to the Bowie DuClaw last night, and the place was a ghost town. It's not like they've got huge Thursday business that we might impinge on.

They also had the flyers up for their next seasonal beer release, which is the 17th and 18th of this month, so they wouldn't take us anyhow...

They were not busy the nights we were there for either beer release. I am really scratching my head because if I were the manager of any establishment, you better believe if someone were talking to me about sure business I would be taking it. A sure thing beats taking your chances.

Oooh! Finally, I meeting I might be able to attend. I missed my first chance in January but I just might be able to make this one (as long as I can remember it!). So did we settle on a location? I mean, I know it's Greene Turtle but where? Aren't there like 4 of them? Being a new member, I'm definitely excited to meet some club members. Hey Skeeler, you gonna be there? You've got an MSM too, right? I have some questions for ya...
Thanks!

That's kinda near the ICC project, right? That's actually one of my companies projects and something I worked on myself!! I've been going to meeting there pretty often down at the ICC hub office which is off of 212 I think. Anyway, I'm hoping I can be there this time!

I'm from the south, I don't know nuthin bout that ICC. I take the Beltway to the Ikea exit and just stay on 1 till I see the Best Buy.

The MSM will not come out and play this time. I spent an hour shoveling the 99 and 93 out of the snowbank that held them captive for the last week or so but ran out of steam before getting to B0000ST. Mother Nature is going to have to lend a helping hand to get that car rolling again.

Wouldn't it be quicker to come up 295 and cut across 197 to contee instead of slogging up US1? GMaps shows it's shorter, plus more speedy highway.

ideas for meeting places other than Green Turtle

1. Ferraris: Its an italian rest. across the street from the Green Turtle, the owner is really nice and food
is really good and they have a bar.. Food is reasonable priced.

2. (rt108/175) Gateway Plaza.. (LOADS OF PARKING PLACES)
Hulahans (sp?) great food lots of seating, mid price, huge bar and drink specials
On the boarder (tex/mex food)

I can tell you this from experience - 295 is probably not quicker that time of night because of traffic. I drive to the meetings from downtown DC so I take 295 and it is slower than molasses

Miätä Assembly technique:

Wayne: with hot torch
Zoli: With 3 coats of enamel and hand stitched leather trim
Jason: the regular way, just over 8 years
Christian: With parts from 15 different boxes
Alan and Kate: How many flat-pack boxes can we fit in the yard?
Bill: None of your business
Mike: copy the instructions and paste them on for somebody else
Me: Put it together?

Gorilla Glue is EXPENSIVE that little fix on my miata was great except it looks like snot on the antenna
base..

Everytime I ever bought IKEA or ICRAP furniture there was a problem with the pre-drilled holes never matched up.

I like my standard answer better: "Hit it with a hammer"

Oh yeah, and it's true that 295 is a parking lot.

My standard ride to the Turtle is up 301 to 3 to 450 to Race Track Road (waving as I pass Zoli's place) to 197 to Contee to 1. If I run into stopped traffic it's on 197 just a couple miles from the destination. Coming home I'll go 1 to the beltway to 5.
